STARBASE 3.0 is an advanced rocketry program for grades 9-12. Students are challenged to design and build a rocket(s) from scratch that will perform the tasks as specified in the annual nationwide competition TARC (Team America Rocket Challenge). Students work in small teams to solve complex problems in physics, engineering, and technology. Students use Rock Sim software to design the rockets and run simulations while adjusting many design variables including center of gravity, and center of mass. During construction, students will use 3D printers, laser cutters, and other hardware. The goal is always to win competitions at the state, national, and international levels. Students compete for recognition and scholarships from aerospace industry leaders such as NASA, Raytheon, and Northrop-Grumman.
This year, the team rolled their own carbon fiber airframe!
