More About Us

The Department of Defense STARBASE Los Alamitos is a premier youth program designed to prepare students with career and job skills essential for success in the 21st century through an enhanced focus on scientific and mathematics-laden curriculum couples with a hands-on, minds-on experiential lessons and activities in Science/Technology, Engineering/Design, and Mathematics (STEM) aligned with NGSS standards. STARBASE Los Alamitos is unique in pairing credentialed teachers with professional engineers offering students exciting opportunities to explore the word of CAD, Robotics, Chemistry, and Geometry/Physics woven into fun and unforgettable lessons. Through this focus, the pre and post-testing of our students results in significant and scalable improvements in math and science test scores of 5th graders; further, these enhancements are sustainable within the classroom  and we welcome the opportunity to work with your teachers in order to replicate experiential lessons within the classroom for your fifth graders.

Our winning STARBASE Advanced Program offers our professional engineers with exemplary technical knowledge of engineering and rocketry in an after-school mentoring program for high school teams. The American Rocketry Challenge (ARC) is an aerospace design and engineering event allowing students to design and build model rockets, and our teams have qualified and gone to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Rocketry Challenge on several occasions, winning awards for rocket design. Further, we have participated in partnerships, events, and projects with the Army/Sunburst Academy, universities, civic organizations such as Scouting, etc. From our weather balloon project with USC, to our Cardboard Regatta with Sunburst, we are continuously exploring partnerships in technological projects and offering training exercises that promote careers in science and technology. Many of our rocket graduates have been inspired to choose a major/careers in these fields. We are immensely proud of our graduates, many of whom return to us with letters of gratitude, accolades and other evidence of the influence of our wonderful instructor. We would love to work with you to help American youth expand their interest and competency in STEM.
